I had a laparoscopic umbilical hernia repair with muscle repair 6.5 weeks ago. I've been cleared by my doctor, but am trying to figure out where to start. I was thinking the postnatal classes might work since my core is still healing. Any thoughts?

Yes, the postnatal classes are really good to start reactivating/re-connecting to those core muscles. After that, I suggest the Level 1 classes for a while, which will allow you to move a little more slowly.
